multi-page tables with inter-row page breaks

I’m not sure that a typesetting system exists, which could break within a table row. I managed to do it (in the first approximation) in LaTeX: source code, PDF, some explanations.

    Hi Oleg,

thanks a lot for your code! However, it does not seem to work for cells that cover a complete page. If you put enough content in the first cell, it won’t break. Do you have any suggestion on how to resolve this issue?

    Best,
    Alex

After some head-scratching I found a solution where \cals@row@dispatch is called again after splitting up the content, if the rowAfter still needs to be splitted. If no table headers are defined, it is also necessary to specify an intermediate \hbox between rowBefore and rowAfter in order to get a proper pagetotal value (maybe there exists a better way to do this, but this is a simple one…)

I’m afraid I can’t suggest a completely correct solution. The complexity of the code is already above my skills. If hbox helps in your case, you have luck. In the general case, I’d have to care also about table decorations. It is not very hard, but takes effort.
